Unending Love A mothers love is unconditional and everlasting. In Robert Harlings play Steel Magnolias, Harling shows how the mother daughter relationship that Mlynn and Shelby share is the strongest relationship in the play. Harling also proves how that even though a person may die, the feelings others have of that person do not die with them, in fact, in some cases they may actually grow. To love unconditionally one must be there for another person no matter what the situation is, or how painful it might be. Mlynn showed how she loved her daughter unconditionally in two ways; first, Mlynn risked her own life to help save Shelbys, and second she stayed by Shelbys side when no one else would. Mlynn risked her own life when she†¦show more content†¦She had the fortitude to stay by her daughters side so Shelby was not alone as she slowly passed on into the next world. Taking into account these examples, it is safe to say that the love Mlynn had for Shelby was unparalleled by a ny other character in the play. Even though Shelby died, Mlynns love for her does not. Mlynn actually found new ways to be connected and cherish her daughter. â€Å"I realized as a woman how lucky I was. I was there when this wonderful person drifted into my world and I was there when she drifted out. It was the most precious moment of my life† (67). The death of Shelby allows Mlynn to see things in a much different way than before her death. If someone would have told Mlynn before Shelby died that the most precious moment in her life would be the moment her daughter died, she would have told you, you were crazy. However, the death of Shelby shocked her to the core, and made her see things in a new light. A great example of Mlynns new outlook on Shelby is her own hair due. Shelby believed that her mothers hair looked like a â€Å"blond football helmet† (17), of course at the time Mlynn just ignored Shelbys statement and was slightly annoyed by it. However, after Shelb ys death Mlynn looks in the mirror and saidâ€Å"You know...Shelby...Shelby was right. It... it does kind of look like a blond football helmet† (68). After Shelbys death Mlynn starts to even appreciate things that she didnt when her daughter was alive.
