Parents for Public Schools   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Today, the push for more accountability of student performance changed how assessment will be measured and judged in public schools. Not only will students be assessed through test scores, but also through attendance, school work, and observations. Parents hold the schools responsible for the advancement of their students’ knowledge. Different tests are given to measure their intelligence level which is either used to compare one student to another or measure their performance based on a pre-existing body of knowledge. The scores from the tests help the schools determine the advancement of a student from grade to grade, additional educational help, and graduation. Accountability needs to apply to everyone, including the administrators, teachers, and students.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Schools are put under the pressure of meeting standards that maintain the students’ current level of intelligence. Political Romantics of Elizabeth Cady Stanton Essay -- Biography Biogr

Political Romantics of Elizabeth Cady Stanton      Ã‚   Romantic persuasion enters all genres of literature. At the time of the American Renaissance romanticism became a prominent aspect of writing. It was a time of change not just in literature, but in the political arena. The political turmoil of the time created a new venue for writers with views of a utopian society. These author's, with their ideals, became a catalyst for the continuing changes of today. This cunning use of language, whether intentional or accidental, continues today. Political change comes not just from thought provoking words, but from gaining the emotions of those hearing the words.    During a time in need of sweeping political change an arena is created which can serve a romantic heart well. Whether this heart is seen as romantic or warrior-like it is the passionate wording that entrances the reader. Elizabeth Cady Stanton's work, while seen as political, speaks not just to the mind, but the heart as well. Choosing her language carefully serves two intents, demanding change and evoking desire in the reader to assist in the changes. It is this ability to create desire that makes Stanton an influential writer. Elizabeth Cady was one of eleven children born into a time in history when women had no voice. After the death of her oldest brother Stanton's father commented, "Oh, my daughter, I wish you were a boy!" (Heath 2031). From this early time she was reminded of her limitations, but refused to accept the restrictions. Stanton went so far as to have the word "obey" omitted from her marriage vows to Henry Brewster Stanton. This formidable personality coupled with an eloquent writing ability led her into politics.    It is Stanton's language ... ... Ellen. The Invention of the Cell Phone

Have you ever imagined the world without cell phones!? How do you think it has affected the world today? The cell phone allows people to communicate with other people anywhere in the world with anyone they want at anytime. How you use the cell phone is what makes it a positive or negative impact on you, society, and the environment. A man named Martin Cooper invented it; he invented it because he wanted people to be able to carry their phones where ever they wanted. He invented it on April 3rd, 1973 in a Motorola Factory. A cell phone is that it is actually a radio, an extremely sophisticated radio, but a radio nonetheless. The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, and wireless communication can trace its roots to the invention of the radio by Nikolai Tesla in the 1880s. It was only natural that these two great technologies would eventually be combined. The first cell phone weighed 2. 5 pounds, had a talk time of 35 minutes, took 10 hours to charge and had no display. Technology takes up a big factor of the cell phone, because without technology there would be no cell phone. Cell phones today have a big impact on the environment. Some negative impacts are that they are constantly being thrown into landfill which causes pollution. Also the mercury, arsenic and lead in the phones can poison the environment and impact humans also. Cell phones can have a big impact on society today because individuals have become overly reliant on cell phones to help with everyday memory functions. Also very high levels of technology have been placed in cell phone which has caused them to be quite expensive. Some positive impacts are that people a can easily communicate with other people faster than like a letter, or a telegram. Also the average cell phone last about 8-12 months and people with replace cell phone after cell phone. Those cell phones that are constantly replaced end up in landfills. SO u can see how society connects to the environment. With all of the information I have provided you with you could infer what life would be like without cell phones, it could be better without the pollution, but bad without the easiness of communicating with anyone and anywhere.

Free Essays on Teenage Suicide

Suicide has been said to be a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It has been estimated for every successful suicide, there is between two hundred to three hundred people who will attempt it (Vannetta 1996). According to statistics provided by National Center for Health Statistics (2000), an average of 30,000 suicide deaths occur in the United States each year. It is estimated that 5,000 of those suicides are committed by teenagers. Suicide happens every 90minutes and is the 2nd leading cause of death among college student and third leading cause of death among youth between ages 15-24. It outnumbers homicides by 5 to 3 and has twice as many deaths as HIV/AIDS. At a ratio of 4:1, more boys than girls are successful at completing suicide; although twice as many girls will attempt suicide. The self may be an important link to why some of the population commits suicide. Self-concept is important in a person’s ability to handle the little changes that threaten the n orms of our individuality. â€Å"The relative strength of contingent and non-contingent components of the self-concept vary by age and sex, thereby, creating varying vulnerabilities to identify threat,† stated Girard (1993 p.555). When committing suicide, boys seek more aggressive means, and as stated earlier, are more successful than girls. Perhaps the avenue of expression each sex takes to attain their respective self-concept is a key to why so many teens attempt or commit suicide within our society. Suicide is a problem that is felt all over the span of the life cycle. Suicide has become the third leading cause of death in the age group of 15 to 24 year olds. In horrifying contrast, the suicide rate of adolescents has tripled since the 1950’s. At present, statistics provided by the National Institute of Mental Health, display male to female ratios as 4:1 Suicide 3 for age group 10 to 14 with a mortality rate of 1.5 per 100,000, 5:1... Free Essays on Teenage Suicide Free Essays on Teenage Suicide Mike Emme, a seventeen year old drove a bright yellow ’67 Ford Mustang. Mike worked really hard to restore his car. Mike being a gifted student was happy, helpful, and had a bright future. Mike being a kind man, he ordered a brand new transmission for his mustang, but he canceled it and bought two used ones from a salvage yard instead, so one of his friends could have his car up and running too. Mike was a very smart man; he learned how to remove a tracheotomy tube from his handicapped niece, he also learned how to sign to her. Mike was a great individual, but his life took a turn for the worse when his girlfriend broke up with him. She told Mike that she was engaged to someone else. One night he got into the front seat of his car and shot himself. Mike had written a note before he shot himself. The note had read, â€Å"I wish I could have learned to hate. Don’t blame yourselves. Mom and dad, I love you. Remember I’ll always be with you.† The note was sig ned, â€Å"love, Mike 11:45pm.† At 11:52 Mike’s parents and his brother came home seven minutes too late to save him. The above story is a summarization of the story (â€Å"For the Love of a Child† in The Third Serving of Chicken Soup for the Soul by Thea Alexander). Teen suicides are becoming a more common social issue than it has been in the past. Everyone knows the old saying that your teen years are the best years of your life. This saying confuses most people to question why a person would want to take their own life? Considering when a teenager hasn’t lived his/her life to the fullest. â€Å"Suicides are the third leading cause of death. Teens have died from suicides more than from cancer, heart disease, HIV, AIDS, birth defects, pneumonia, stroke, and lung disease combined.† (Casey, 93) â€Å"Suicidal behavior first creeps into our statistical tables at around the age of 12 and rises steadily through the teen years and beyond.† (Chiles, 29) It is estimated that 30,000 peop... Essay Sample on Athanasius and the Incarnation of the Word

Essay Sample on Athanasius and the Incarnation of the Word Athanasius utters his theological views about the incarnation of Word of God as Christ Jesus. He is addressing Jews, gentiles and the whole world, in this talk. Athanasius develops his talk from what John says in the Gospel according to John that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1-3). Word of God is completely divine and it is the Word of God that made the whole universe evolve. Word of God manifested in human form as Christ Jesus and represented the love and goodness of father in the world, gifting precious salvation that human beings never deserved. Each and every evolution and all renewal that is happening in the world were brought by the same Word of God that made everything evolve from nothing, long centuries back. Creation as well as salvation is from the same root the Word of God. Father almighty has a ssigned the duty of dispensing salvation to the world to nobody else but to his Word (Christ Jesus) who is responsible for the creation of the world. The author rules out the opinion that the universe is self originated. He argues that there is a mastermind behind all these wonderful creations and nothing will appear in this beautiful fashion unless or otherwise some one plans it in his mind. Athanasius called Lord, the designer and maker of everything and brushed off the concept of spontaneous generation. Other theories that explained creation like the The Epicurean theory, Platos argument and the Theory of Gnostics were all completely disproved by Athanasius. Athanasius says that God is the fountainhead of all goodness and it is impossible for him to me merciless towards something for which he is the father and possessor. He made everything out of nothing through his powerful most word which is our savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Mankind had a special seat in his heart from the very beginning and greatly enjoyed the privilege of his mercy and love. He honored man, which is another creation that evolved from the power of the Word of God, and presented a special grace and molded him in his own image. This was a manifestation of the mind and power of God in human beings (even though in a limited degree) which will come to its fulfillment in the resurrection of human body during the rapture in the mid-air. He kept them in the Eden Garden so that they could enjoy the grace and keep the beauty of the original innocence just protecting them from a single prohibition. If they had abided in the grace of God they could enjoy the splendor of Eden Gard en in the assurance of the immortality offered by God. Since they discarded the beauty of innocence and the precious inheritance, they became liable to death and corruption. God not only created man but also bestowed life through his breath by the power and might of his word. Man, however, bid death and corruption by being disobedient to God and obeying the counsel of devil, the destroyer. He ignored his eternal inheritance and went after corruption and wickedness. Man transgressed all the commandments and his corruption passed all limits. They invented new Gods for them (worshipped idols of stone and tree) and absolutely defiled their own soul. As St. Paul says, they worshipping the creature rather than the Creator. He devised new kinds of sins moving from bad to worse and never ever remembered the commandments f God. Murder and rapine ruled the world; thefts, adulteries and other corruptions conquered man. All kinds of iniquities and sins grew wild and shook the very basic of justice existed in the world. Cities fought with cities, nations had fights among each other. Various other fighting factions arose disturbing the peace and law of the world. Scri pture says, Their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature; and the men also, leaving the natural use of the woman, flamed out in lust towards each other, perpetrating shameless acts with their own sex, and receiving in their own persons the due recompense of their pervertedness. God wanted to reestablish the fellowship between man and God and planned to step down from heaven to earth in human form with the most beautiful gift that he can offer to mankind, the salvation. God wanted to deliver man from the law of death and desired to establish incorruption in him. The law of death which was prevailing upon man as a result of transgression also could not be taken back so that man could escape. It was unbearable for God to ignore something which was evolved as a result of the Word of God. The everlasting love and mercy of God invited the sinful man back to the presence of God. Bringing out man from corruption by bringing a simple repentance in him will not help him come out of the law of death which God cannot annul easily because of its origin from the Word of God. A simple repentance cannot reestablish the lost glory, divine beauty and the wonderful inheritance that man once possessed. The Word of God (Jesus Christ) had to redeem man from corruptibility and si n and also had to preserve the stability of the will of the God, and above all, he had to be ambassador of the heaven in earth for carrying out the plans of God. The Word of God (Christ Jesus) was the most incorruptible and incorporeal being that entered the earth in a new way stepping down from his position in heaven and expressing his love and responsibility concerning mankind which was once evolved as a result of him. He could have revealed himself in a form that establish his divine majesty and power, but took the form of a man, preparing his human body as a temple for God to dwell. It was heartbreaking for him the scene of corruption and death reigning over something for which he is the artificer. He, taking the body of a human being surrendered it to death, showing the complete submission to the will of God and obeying the rule of death (which was also evolved through the Word of God) like all other men. He revealed his sheer love for mankind by submitting to death, (thereby a bolishing the rule of death and destroying the corruption) and uplifting the status of man to incorruptibility through the power of his resurrection. Both the birth and death of savior was not in a usual way. He originated from Holy Spirit choosing virginity as his mother so that no man can ever doubt his incorruptibility and divinity. He offered his body as a sacrifice and God and chose a crucified death for him since he is liable neither to sin, nor to sickness or any other form of affliction. Cross revealed his heavenly mission and true death, his body being the witness before whole world, heaven and hell. His death on the cross was very reasonable and was an open proclamation to the whole world about the free salvation offered at the cross. The physical form of Word of God being dead in the cross for the sake of humanity, rose up on the third day impassible and incorruptible as a pledge and token of the victory over sin, corruption and mortality. He displayed his body alive disp laying his incorruptibility, immortality and revealed his mind to his disciples. The Word of God demonstrated his perfect love over his masterpiece (human beings) by offering his precious life as a sacrifice for them. The crucified Word of God was visible to the whole world, both Jews and gentiles. Jews were given proper revelation about the birth and death of Christ Jesus (the Word of God) through their scriptures. His marvelous birth and wonderful offering at the cross was not concealed for Jews. There shall arise a star from Jacob and a man from Israel, and he shall break in pieces the rulers of Moab. (Numbers 24: 17) Scripture very well foretells his death at the cross and says. A man that is afflicted and knows how to bear weakness, for His face is turned away. He was dishonoured and not considered, He bears our sins and suffers for our sakes. And we for our part thought Him distressed and afflicted and ill-used; but it was for our sins that He was wounded and for our lawlessness that He was made weak. Chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His bruising we are healed. (Isaiah 53: 3-5). Scriptures spoke about the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ (the Word of God) right from the book of Genesis, throughout the Old Testament. No other prophet or any other personality in the Old Testament ever claimed that they are the Word of God or never displayed any heavenly property of the son of God. In spite of having various crystal clear prophesies and other proofs about the birth, death, resurrection, and the purpose and nature of life of son of God, Israel did not believe in Christ Jesus (the Word of God). Considering the case of the unbelief of the gentiles, they also refused to believe the son of God who came to earth for their sake too. Rather they opted to offer their worship and reverence to their own hand-built idols. They felt the concept of manifestation of Word of God into flesh very incredible. It is unknown why they refused to disbelieve the power of God in word (Christ Jesus) if they really love to believe the truth. If the Word of God exists in this universe and exists everywhere, why should people disbelief the concept that Word of God coming in human form that is far better accessible than any other form. Athanasius concludes his talk by mentioning about the significance of the belief in Christ. The significance of the theological uttering of his study was very much evident in the 4th Century which was the period of the true establishment of Christianity throughout the world. The period was a time of great tribulation too. Athanasius concludes his study by telling that Son of Man (the Word of God) came to earth with a beautiful gift of salvation with complete protection from judgment. The arrival, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus broke all the strands of sin, and corruptibility and made Satan surrender before God with all his powers and weapons. Everyone who believes in Christ Jesus (Word of God) will be given eternal life and the incorruptible heaven on the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith in Jesus Christ (Word of God) is the very basic and ultimate condition of salvation in the New Testament. Jesus during his ministry in the earth proclaimed that whoever believes in him will not perish but will have eternal life. Christ promised that he would come again for his chosen ones very soon. He himself says, I say unto you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of Man seated on the right hand of power, coming on the clouds of heaven in the glory of the Father. How Total Fertility Rate Affects a Countrys Population

How Total Fertility Rate Affects a Countrys Population The term total fertility rate describes the total number of children the average women in a population is likely to have based on current birth rates throughout her life. The number ranges from more than six children per woman in developing countries in Africa to around one child per woman in Eastern European and highly developed Asian countries. Replacement Rate The concept of replacement rate is associated with total fertility rate.  The replacement rate is the number of children each woman needs to have to maintain current population levels, or what is known as zero population growth, for her and the father.   In developed countries, the necessary replacement rate is about 2.1. Since replacement cannot occur if a child does not grow to maturity and have their own offspring, the need for the extra 0.1 child (a 5 percent buffer) per woman is due to the potential for death and factors in those who choose or are unable to have children. In less developed countries, the replacement rate is around 2.3 because of higher childhood and adult death rates. World Fertility Rates Vary Widely Nonetheless, with total fertility rates of 6.01 in Mali and 6.49 in Niger (as of 2017), the resultant growth in these countries populations is expected to be phenomenal over the next few years, unless growth rates and total fertility rates drop. For example, Malis 2017 population was approximately 18.5 million, up from 12 million a decade prior. If Malis high total fertility rate per woman continues, the population will continue to explode. Malis 2017 growth rate of 3.02 means a doubling time of just 23 years. Other countries with high total fertility rates included Angola at 6.16, Somalia at 5.8, Zambia at 5.63, Malawi at 5.49, Afghanistan at 5.12, and Mozambique at 5.08. On the other hand, more than 70 countries had (as of 2017) a total fertility rate of less than 2. Without immigration or an increase in total fertility rates, all of these countries will have declining populations over the next few decades. Some of the lowest total fertility rates included developed as well as developing countries. Examples of countries with low fertility rates were Singapore at 0.83, Macau at 0.95,  Lithuania at 1.59, the Czech Republic at 1.45, Japan at 1.41, and   Canada at 1.6. The U.S. Fertility Rate Is Below Replacement The total fertility rate for the United States in 2017 was below replacement value at 1.87 and the total fertility rate for the world was 2.5, down from 2.8 in 2002 and 5.0 in 1965. Chinas one-child policy definitely shows in the countrys total low fertility rate of 1.6. Different cultural groups within a country can exhibit different total fertility rates. In the United States, for example, when the countrys total fertility rate was 1.82 (in 2016), the total fertility rate was 2.09 for Hispanics, 1.83 for African Americans, 1.69 for Asians, and 1.72 for whites, still the largest ethnic group. Total fertility rates are closely tied to growth rates for countries and can be an excellent indicator of future population growth or decline for a country or for a population within a country.

Medicare Part A and Part B Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Medicare Part A and Part B - Essay Example To reflect this fact, all the calculations found below will have to incorporate a value (the national large urban standardized amount and the labor related large urban standardized amount, for example) to correctly calculate the claims. There is also a geographic cost adjustment factor, which in this case needs to be relevant to San Francisco, which needs to be incorporated into calculations to ensure that the costs incurred by Medicare are relevant to the treatment area in which the patient lives. Of course, the wages received in this area will be different to in other areas of the US and these are also incorporated into the federal operating payment incurred. The skilled nursing facility is also in this area and thus will be subject to the same kind of geographic adjustment as the General Hospital claim. In this case, San Francisco is one of the more expensive areas of the US in which to be treated (Medicare, 2010) and as such the costs will reflect this fact and may seem excessive to someone receiving the same treatment in a rural area in a smaller hospital. Firstly, the federal operating payment with IME and DSH needed to be calculated.

Choose a city or neighborhood and research the effects of race and Essay

Choose a city or neighborhood and research the effects of race and class on the place - Essay Example r clarification, the subject matter centers on recent situations experienced in Brooklyn’s neighborhoods, where racial diversities may explain how the outlook and evolution in overall economic and social movements in the area. Brooklyn communities in New York City are, in a way, a melting pot of diverse ethnic groups. Contrary to what most commonly perceive, the neighborhood in Brooklyn is not primarily composed of â€Å"white† citizens. Among the overall population of 85, 343 in 2000, white non-hispanic amounted only a small portion of 0.7 %, while majority are African-Americans with 78.2%; followed by Hispanic groups with 18% (â€Å"Brooklyn Community District† 5). This shows migration patterns in Brooklyn, where minority groups, particularly the African and Hispanic descent, gain the upper hand, with their workforce drive increasing economic opportunities. The significance lies on their interaction in the communities, especially in the early parts of the 19th century, where the influx of migrating races is at its peak. In spite of the excess statistics of minority groups invading the Western territory of Brooklyn, the displacement of the original white inhabitants is not as profound as formerly assumed. Class distinctions may have been a primary incident in 18th centuries, where the rich and the poor are clearly divided; however, it seems that the later century still inspires such outlook (Scherzer 6). There is still a high degree of likelihood that low socioeconomic conditions and condensed levels of minority groups are of similar specters, paving way for poor neighborhood conditions (Weintraub 3). At most, although the urban conditions in Brooklyn is not extensively impoverished, its stability is deemed unsecured for households to live in satisfaction. The availability of several educational centers in Brooklyn, New York, from preschool to university institutions, is quite generous in number--perceiving the importance of education in the future of Brooklyn

Transport - Essay Example On the other hand, the impact of industries on the environment has been differentiated in accordance with a series of factors – the level of involvement of these industrial activities in everyday life indicates the potential impact of these activities on the environment. Countries around the world have adopted different policies aiming to reduce the impact of their industrial activities on the environment. The achievement of this target is often difficult being depended on the ability of governments to identify the actual causes of the problem and to introduce the measures that are most appropriate in the specific case. Current paper focuses on the presentation and the evaluation of the policies and measures introduced by the Scottish government towards the reduction of the impact of transport on climate change. Emphasis is given on the factors that affect the performance of these measures. Furthermore, suggestions are made in regard to the additional policies available to the Scottish government and others aiming to control the impact of transport on climate change. Transport has been an industrial sector closely related with the environment. In fact, it has been proved that the various means of transport affect the environment but this impact can be effectively controlled if appropriate policies are developed in advance. At this point, the level at which environment affects the governmental policies of a particular country is of crucial importance; the examination of the response of governments to the climate change – as the relevant policies are presented below – has led to the assumption that not all countries align their strategic decisions with the needs of the environment; in Scotland, the country’s government have paid significant attention on the potential effects of transport of climate change; this trend is reflected in the Climate Change Delivery Plan, a regulatory framework aiming to reduce the impact of transport of climate change. Muslim Sunni Mosque Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Muslim Sunni Mosque - Essay Example I had been told by my Sunni acquaintances that this was the oldest and the grandest Muslim Sunni Mosque in California. It had been built in 1984 through a trust fund which a Saudi Arabian woman had set up in 1977 for this specific purpose. When visiting her children who were studying in LA, she discovered that there was no mosque in the area, where Sunnis could pray and congregate. Therefore, she decided to donate the money required to establish a mosque which would act as a place of prayer, a center for religious instruction and advise and a social and cultural community center for Sunnis. As I approached the mosque, one of the very first things which struck me was its grandness. Surrounded by iron gates and located in the center of a rather large piece of land, the mosque was quite imposing. Nevertheless, it did not attract my attention because it was, in any way, different from Shia architecture or more impressive than Shia mosques but because this was LA. Upon entering the mosque, I felt a sense of familiarity, meaning that I felt that I was entering a Muslim place of worship and not a Sunni one which was foreign to me as a Shi'ite. As it was just half an hour before the call for the Friday noon prayers, most of the Muslims were in the washrooms performing the ritual cleansing, woodu. Here I noticed a difference.

Investing in Gold and Silver Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Investing in Gold and Silver - Essay Example By depositing the gold and silver into the respective banks of nations, it was replaced with paper money based on the value of the gold and silver they deposited (Dunwiddle, 2008). The problem started to arise when the World War closed in and the countries required huge amounts of resources to fund the wars. Prior to the World War, the gold standard was in place in most of the countries. Gold Standard, as explained above is when people could convert their gold into paper money. Hence, the government is restricted in the amount of paper money it could print. The advantage of this gold standard upholds is that the inflation is kept under check, as the supply of money is limited (Haynes, 2005). To fund the war the United Kingdom and the United States both abandoned the Gold Standard, in 1920s and 1933 respectively. This was replaced by the Gold Exchange Standard, through which countries did no longer hold reserves in actual gold, but in dollars and pounds. Thus putting these currencies in a strong position in the world, while the other countries kept on piling up foreign currency thinking they were good as gold. In 1974 to further cut the ties between gold and currency, US government of Nixon abolished the link. Due to the need of yet more funds for the Vietnam War, the government abolished this link. The effects of this final blow, led to high inflation further helping the government and big businesses. Leslie Snyder in her book, â€Å"Why Gold? The One Sure Cure for Inflation and Economic Tyranny† named inflation as a vicious form of taxation on the common people, while the big corporations and government are the beneficiaries (Snyder, 1974). The importance and relevance of this historical background of Gold and Silver, is to understand how valuable gold and silver is even today. One thing to keep in mind is that even though the abolishment led to high inflation and budget deficits during the 1970s, the prices of gold and silver also increased with it. He nce the investment in silver and more importantly gold is always a safe bet. When inflation was at the highest in the United States during 1979 and 1980 the return on the gold was 130.4% on an average. It is a great hedge against high inflation; this holds true for the current market situation as well (BERU). Currently, the central banks are planning to announce unlimited liquidity to the financial sector. This would further fuel inflation and move it a step closer towards hyperinflation and top of the exhaustion of the savings and diminishing purchasing power, the metals such as Gold and Silver will emerge as winners. This is due to fact that the governments and central banks continue to print more and more money. According to William Bancroft, the gold is undervalued today in terms of the money being published. Considering this scenario the investors in the mining sector will be rewarded handsomely in the future. The opposite side of inflation is deflation. According to Bancroft, not only will a high inflation have a positive impact on gold, but a deflation will result in a desirable outcome. Due to the economics of deflation, it would put high pressures on the banks. Resulting in bank failures, depositors will find other means to safeguard their money. As history has shown, there is no safer investment than gold and silver. Due to the nature and high performance of these metals, gold and silver in tough times i.e., especially in times of hyperinflation is why most advisors encourage

Comarative analysis of video games Essay Example for Free

Comarative analysis of video games Essay Introduction Pascal, after remodeling your house and adding a bonus/entertainment room, you mentioned that you would love to buy a new video gaming system. The last video gaming system that you owned was a Nintendo 64, which pales in comparison to the systems available today. Since owning a Nintendo 64, your experience with playing video games has been limited to playing MMORPGs (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Games) on your personal computer. I have been researching your options and am constantly considering your preferences and restrictions. Your primary preference is game genre, with your most preferred genre being Role-Playing. Several other genres that you are interested in are Action, Adventure, Platformers, and Strategy. Your only real restriction is a spending limit of $700 for your entire gaming setup. Other preferences that have been noted are the system’s Blu-Ray capabilities, and that the system targets a mature audience. The three most prominent video gaming systems on the market that fit your preferences are Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii, and Sony’s Playstation 3. The following criteria are being used to evaluate your options. * Cost * Hardware Specifications * Games Offered * Target demographic * Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches * Movie-Playing Features The remaining contents of this comparative study will be organized into the several sections. RESEARCH DATA will be presented organized first by option and then by evaluative criteria. Each of the evaluative criteria will be compared in the RESULTS section by showing the results for each option side-by-side. These results will be totaled and a final CONCLUSION will be made. Finally, I will make a RECOMMENDATION as to the most appropriate course of action. Table 1. 7: Comparing Costs Option| Cost| Ranking (1-Best Option)| Microsoft’s Xbox 360| $199. 99| 2| Nintendo’s Wii| $149. 99| 1| Sony’s Playstation 3| $299. 99| 3| BEST OPTION: All Because you have already identified that your spending limit is $700 for a gaming setup, none of these options go against your cost preference. Cost is not a preventative factor in purchasing a video gaming system based on this information. However, if you decide that you would like to readjust your spending limit given the substantial difference between your limit and the prices of the systems, the Wii is your best option. Comparing Hardware Specifications The table below lists the hardware specifications for each option, and also includes the online capabilities of each system and their respective networks. Table 1. 8: Comparing Hardware Specifications | Options| Hardware Specification| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3|. * * Media Type| * * DVD| * * Flash Memory Card, * Nintendo Wii Disc, * Nintendo GameCube Disc| * * Blu-Ray| * * CPU| * * 3. 2 GHz PowerPC Tri-Core Xenon| * * 729 MHzIBM PowerPC â€Å"Broadway†| * * 3. 2 GHz IBM Cell Broadband Engine (8-core)| * * Internal Memory| * * 4 GB Flash| * * 512 MB| * * 160 GB HDD| * * RAM| * * 512 MB| * * 512 MB| * * 256 MB XDRAM| * * Online Services| * * Xbox Live| * * Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, WiiConnect24,| * * Playstation Network| * * Online Multi-Player Services| * * Yes| * * Yes| * * Yes| * * Connector Types| 1 x AV cable port,5 x USB 2. 0, 1 x Kinect port,1 x HDMI output1 x SPDIF output,1 x Ethernet| (4 pin USB Type A),4 x Game controller,Component video output,Composite video output,S-Video output,2 x USB| 2 x USB,1 x Ethernet,1 x HDMI output,1 x PlayStation 3 AV output,1 x SPDIF output| * Ranking| 1| 3| 2| BEST OPTION: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Because your preference is to play online Role-Playing Games, the focus of the hardware specification criterion has to be online capabilities. When it comes to online game-play, Xbox 360 has the technical specifications to make it the best option. One of the most important specifications in a system is its processor speed. The Xbox 360 boasts a 3. 2 GHz PowerPC Tri-Core Xenon processor, which is the same speed as the Playstation 3, but far superior to the Wii. When it comes to intense online game play with potentially dozens of other players, it is important to have a processor that can keep up. To keep the whole system running smoothly and minimize lag time, it is also important to have a substantial amount of RAM. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have 512 MB or RAM, while the Wii only has 256 MB. At this point, the Xbox and Playstation 3 are nearly equal in terms of specifications that lean toward online gaming. What really pushes the Xbox 360 in the lead is their network: Xbox Live. As of 2011, Xbox Live has over 30 million users worldwide. Most of the games that are played on the Xbox Live network are geared toward your gaming preference of Role-Playing and Adventure games. However, due to the massive size of the network and the sheer number of users, even a less popular category like Strategy is available for multi-player gaming. According to Michael McNeilly, an experienced Xbox 360 online gamer, â€Å"There is really nothing like the Xbox Live network out there. The network for PS3 is okay, but it isn’t nearly as big and has a lot of bugs that still haven’t been worked out. † Michael Mcneilly has played all of the other systems extensively, but due to his love for online gaming, he chose the Xbox 360. Ralph Jones, an avid Wii owner and player, explained to me that he really has no need to play online. He mostly enjoys the physical nature of the Wii’s gameplay, and doubts that the Wii is even capable of serious online gaming. According to Kyle Johnson, an avid gamer and owner of all three options, the Wii is not a competitive option in terms of online gaming. When asked about the Playstation 3 and its online gaming community, Kyle explained that there is a reason that the Playstation Network does not have a subscription fee. It is not adequate when compared to Xbox Live, and the number of users sometimes makes it hard to play the less popular games online. Clearly, the Xbox 360 offers the best of both worlds. It has a massive online gaming community and also boasts a powerful 3. 2 GHz processor. With processor speed and RAM that are equal to the Playstation 3 and far superior to the Wii, the Xbox Live community is what gives the Xbox 360 the top ranking and makes it the best option in terms of hardware specification. Comparing Games Offered Table 1. 9 lists a calculated average of the two figures previously provided in graphs 1. 1, 1. 2, and 1. 3. These figures were mean game-review scores of all games in three genres, and mean scores of the top-five best-selling games for the three genres. Table 1. 9: Comparing Games Offered pt. 1 | Options|. Table 1. 10: Comparing Games Offered pt. 2 | Options| Genre| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Role-Playing Games| 108| 33| 117| Ranking| 2| 3| 1| BEST OPTION: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Based on the averages found for all five relevant genres, the Xbox 360 is the best option for the Games Offered criterion. Even though the Playstation 3 has a slightly higher total number of Role-Playing Games available for sale, it does not outweigh the fact that the Xbox 360 scored significantly higher on overall game-review scores. It is generally more important to have higher-rated games than a greater quantity of lower-rated games. For this reason, the Xbox 360 is the best choice for the Games Offered criterion. Comparing Target Demographic Table 1. 11 displays your three options and the total number of ratings received for each rating category out of all games available for each system. Table 1. 11: Comparing Target Demographic. | Options (Number of Ratings)| Rating| Microsoft’s Xbox 360| Nintendo’s Wii| Sony’ Playstation 3| Everyone| 303| 916| 481| Everyone 10+| 213| 355| 186| Teen | 535| 374| 529| Mature| 491| 57| 373| Rating Pending| 145| 61| 145| Ranking| 1| 3| 2| BEST OPTION: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Based on all of the games available for each gaming system, the Xbox 360 has the most games with ratings in the Mature and Teen categories. Since you, Pascal, are an adult and prefer the types of games that are most commonly rated Teen and Mature, the Xbox 360 gets the top rank for the Target Demographic criterion. Sony’s Playstation 3 comes in second with a comparable number of games in the Teen and Mature rating categories, but they are not quite as high as the Xbox 360. Nintendo’s Wii has least number of ratings in each of those categories. The Wii has a staggeringly low number of games in the Mature category at 57, and roughly 150 less games in the Teen category than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This makes it clear that the Xbox 360 is geared toward an adult audience, and will likely have more games that suit the preferences of an adult. The Playstation 3 is a close second, but still offers significantly less games in the Mature category. The Wii seems to be geared toward a younger, less mature audience, and will likely have the least number of games that will fit your preferences. With all of this considered, it is clear that the Xbox 360 is the best option for the Target Demographic criterion. Comparing Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches Table 1. 11 shows all of the common hardware malfunctions and glitches for each option. This table also assigns a ranking (1 being the system with the overall least severe hardware problems relative to the other options). Table 1. 12: Comparing Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches | Options|. | Microsoft’s Xbox 360| Nintendo’s Wii| Sony’s Playstation 3| Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches| *Complete System Crash – â€Å"Red Ring of Death†*Basic Hardware Failure (eg. DVD tray and laser failure)| *Power Supply Issue*WiConnect24 Issue*Dual-Layer Wi Disc Failure| *Complete System Crash –â€Å"Yellow Lights of Death†| Ranking| 2| 1| 3| BEST OPTION: Nintendo’s Wii Based on this table and other research, I have identified Nintendo’s Wii as your best option for the Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches criterion. Even though the Wii does run into problems occasionally, they are rarely as severe as they are with the other options. All of the problems listed for the Wii are covered by warranty and are not worthy of complete system replacement. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 both commonly run into full system crashes, which render the system unusable. Kyle Johnson, an avid gamer and owner of all three options, has never run into a problem with his Wii, but has experienced full system crashes on both his Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The only reason the Xbox 360 is ranked higher than the Playstation 3 is because self-repair on the Playstation 3 is strongly discouraged. Kyle Johnson and Michael McNeilly have both performed minor repairs on their Xbox 360’s, but have never dared to open up their Playstation 3’s. With all things considered, Nintendo’s Wii is the best option for the Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches criterion. Comparing Movie-Playing Features Table 1. 13 below shows all of the media discs played by each option, and whether or not that option satisfies your preference of having a built-in Blu-Ray player. Table 1. 13: Comparing Movie-Playing Features | Options| | Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Media Discs Played| * Xbox 360 Discs * Xbox 1 Discs * DVDs * CDs * DVD-R * DVD+R * DVD-RW * DVD+RW * CD-R * CD-RW * Dual Discs | * Wii Discs * GameCube Discs| * Playstation 1,2, and 3 Discs * Blu-Ray Discs * DVDs * CDs * DVD-R * DVD+R * DVD-RW * DVD+RW * CD-R * CD-RW * Dual Discs | Satisfies Preference? | No| No| Yes| Ranking| 2| 3| 1| BEST OPTION: Sony’s Playstation 3 Based on the media discs that each option offers, Sony’s Playstation 3 is the obvious choice for the top rank in the Movie-Playing Features criterion. The Playstation 3 is capable of playing both DVDs and Blu-Rays, while the Xbox. 360 is only capable of playing DVDs. The Nintendo Wii, however, cannot even play DVDs. Because you have identified that you prefer a video gaming system that has a built-in Blu-Ray player, the Playstation 3 is the best option for the Movie-Playing Features criterion. CONCLUSIONS Table 1. 14 lists the rankings of each of the six evaluative criteria used throughout this report. In order to come to an overall conclusion as to which option to select, I have assigned reversed point values to the previously determined rankings. If, for instance, an option received a ranking of 1, it would be valued a 3. A ranking of 2 receives a value of 2, and a ranking of 3 is valued a 1. The total number of points will be shown at the bottom of the table along with the final ranking. The video gaming system with the highest number of points will be ranked as 1 and will be your best option. Table 1. 14: Overall Ranking | Options| Evaluative Criteria| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Cost| 1| 1| 1| Hardware Specification| 1| 3| 2| Games Offered| 1| 3| 2| Target Demographic| 1| 3| 2| Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches| 2| 1| 3| Movie-Playing Features| 2| 3| 1| Total Points| 16| 10| 13| Overall Ranking| 1| 3| 2| RECOMMENDATIONS. It has been determined that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is the best option, and I would like to recommend to you several retailers where it is available for purchase. The price is universal when bought new, but may vary depending on bundling and other promotions. I have prepared a table showing three popular retailers, the nearest location, and the price of the Xbox 360 4GB system. Table 1. 15: Retail Locations and Price Retailers and Locations| Price| GameStop(425) 895-833116475 NE 74TH STRedmond, WA 98052| $199. 99| Target(425) 482-641013950 NE 178th PlWoodinville, WA 98072| $199. 99| Walmart(425) 741-94451400 164Th St SwLynnwood, WA 98087| $199. 99| Throughout my research I began to realize that the final outcome would depend heavily on how much any criterion was valued. Based on your personal preferences, the best choice is the Xbox 360. However, if you decided that you valued having a Blu-Ray player above everything else, then the Playstation 3 would be the best option. If you decided that the only way to play Role-Playing Games was to use a remote and a nun chuck, then the Wii would be the best choice. It all depends on the valuing of any particular criterion. If you are interested in doing further research, the bibliography lists all sources used. My personal interviewees may be available if you would like to ask them questions, and all of my other sources have a variety of useful and reliable information. Based on everything I have learned from this report and my personal experience with the system, I believe that the Xbox 360 is the best choice for a video gaming system. An Interpretation of the Ghost :: science

An Interpretation of the Ghost Ghost is something that some believe and some won't. But still most of them get frighten to some extend, when they watch terrific horror films. Perhaps it is due to the terrific sounds or special effects that imposes ones mind. But there is a specific science that has the ability to explain the concepts of the spirits or ghosts called Adhyathma (A study centered around the soul)in the Ancient Indian script. According to the teachings of the ancient scripture Bhagavad Gita, the brain (and the body in general) is only a mechanical device used by the spirit soul (the actual self). It is described that just as a passenger rides in a chariot, in the same way the spirit soul is riding in this vehicle of the body. The scriptures state that one who commits suicide will have to remain as a ghost for the period of time that one's body was supposed to exist. A ghost is nothing but a person with no physical body. According to the sankhya system, our body is made up of two coverings, the sukshma-sharira (subtle body) and the sthula-sharira (gross body). The gross body is made up of the panca-bhutas (earth, water, fire, air and ether), and the subtle body is made up of the mind (manas), intelligence (buddhi) and identification (ahankara). It is the subtle body which accompanies the soul into the next body at the time of death. The gross physical body has a particular duration of existence based on one's prarabdha karma(results of the deeds of his previous incarnation). When one commits suicide, one brings one's physical body to an end prior to it having completed it's allotted time. One's next body is prepared in the akasha (ether), ready to manifest at the end of one's allotted time (the normal death of one's physical body). Thus if one was supposed to live for 100 years, one's next body will be waiting for you after that 100 years. If for some reason one were to commit suicide at the age of 50, then one's next body will not be ready, and one will remain in an ethereal state until the balance 50 years of existence pass. This state of existing as a ghost is a great suffering for the individual, as they lack the senses through which to act. The desires to act remain, as the mind, intelligence and identification of the subtle body are still existing.
